Diary kept by Benjamin Gates, 1839-1840, 1846-1854. Label on cover: Taylor Journal 1839-1854. In April, 1840 Gates adds a note: After the above my work will be found in the Taylors [sic]. Public journal. This diary resumes in September, 1846 with work in hat shop, other trades and activities as Family deacon and elder. Label on front paste-down leaf: Bound by Henry De Witt, New-Lebanon.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
