Description

Woven poplar box (a) with square lid and recessed bottom. Lid and box edges are lined with "skiver," a white kid leather, which also covers the bottom of the box. Lid fastened to the box by three "hinges" made of yellow grosgrain ribbon and lifts by a glass bead located on the opposite side of the ribbons. Box is lined with bright yellow cotton sateen. Star-shaped paper tag (b) inscribed "5.50" with loop of thread found inside box.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
