Side chair with tape seat, stamped "7" on front posts, South Family, Watervliet, NY
Description
Side chair with three back slats and taped seat. Curly maple posts, ash stretchers, maple slats, maple tilters, plain weave cloth seat tape. Entire chair painted bright yellow that has aged to a mustardy color. Back slats are steeply chamfered on tops, and pommels are typical of Watervliet, NY,chairs. Chair equipped with maple tilters. Seat tape is exquisite; black with tan stripes and tan with darker orange-tan stripes with a single black thread. Well-executed weave, over a fabric cushion. Chair appears to have originally been painted yellow. #7 is impressed on top of each front post. Said to have come from Eldress Rachel's apartment at the South Family, Watervliet, NY.
