[General View Second Family, Mt. Lebanon, NY]

Object ID:
2011.23014.1
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

A pair of nearly identical photographs mounted on an orange card depicting the view along an interior road of the Second Family Shakers at Mount Lebanon. The road runs parallel to the main road (now Darrow Road). On the right side of the road from left to right are the Stone Sisters' Workshop, and the Dwelling House -- the Sisters' Workshop destroyed by fire in 1923 and the Dwelling demolished in the early 1940s by Avery Robinson and Mary Chess Robinson who had purchased the property from the Shaker a year or two earlier. On the left side of the road the second building is the family Wood House and Workshop -- but is better known as the building in which the Brother William Perkins and Sister Lillian Barlow manufactured Shaker chairs from the mid-1920s into the late-1930s. Note the ox team drawing a stone boat along the street.
