Description

Woven straw, possibly poplar bonnet. Seams on front edge of bonnet and between sides/crown are 3/8" wide and are woven in dissimilar fashion. Bonnet has light green pleated mesh flounce that is connected to bonnet for 13". Interior, back part of bottom trim is bright purple silk that is about 3/8" wide. Fabric seam, between sides and crown is light purple silk, about 5/8" wide with zigzags sewn on with white cotton thread. Crown is lined with nude transparent nylon or silk. Cream-colored ties, attached underneath flounce are 1 7/8" wide and about 12 1/4" long.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
