Description

A brass and steel wick holder. The wick holder is circular with a stepped edge and a steel domed lid, which is hinged. At the top center of the dome is a slit 1/4" w. Underneath the dome is a stepped perforated disk with an oval protrusion. This protrusion continues to the holder's base, which is attached to curved arms, with decorative arrow cut-outs. Through the holder is a small brass rod with a circular disk at one end for progressing the wick, which catches on the three gear-like spokes on the opposite end of the rod.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
