Description

Blanket chest of white pine. Typical six-board chest construction with dovetailed corners sitting in a plinth base with dovetails securing front corners and cut-outs with rounded ends forming feet at corners. Lid is hinged with forged iron chest hinges and has an applied molded lip at each end which overlaps the chest ends. There is a till inside the chest at each end. The proper right till has a small dovetailed drawer beneath which originally had a half-mortise lock which has been removed. A brass knob is centered in the drawer front. Painted red.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
