Description

Jointer plane of beech with hickory strike, closed handle, cast steel iron, and wrought cap iron of iron or steel. Handle off-set slightly to proper right.

Notes

The initials "AB" may refer to Amos Bishop or Anthony Brewster. Brewster worked as a carpenter at the Church Family, Mount Lebanon, from 1818 to 1837. Amos Bishop was a co-inventor of a tongue-and-groove machine, and worked as a mechanic and carpenter.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
