Mold, Basket Weaving

Object ID:
1950.2581.1
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

Round basket mold constructed with two pieces of white pine held together by four #10 or #12 flat-head wood screws. Top of the mold has a rectangular piece of wood set into it over the hole drilled into the mold from its bottom (to attach the mold to a support). Top of the mold riddled with pin holes that originated when the vertical splints were pinned in place while being laid out for weaving. Probably because this mold was so heavily used, some of the holes have been plugged with square cross-section toothpick-like pieces of hardwood, possibly beech.
