Description

Between-centers turned cherry knob with 9/32" slot cut into lower end into which a flat birch blade is inserted and held with three 3/16" diameter (cherry?) pins. The birch blade widens near the end forming the paddle. A 5/16" diameter hole is drilled through birch part of handle below cherry knob. On one side of birch blade there are two compass drawn, six-pointed "stars." On handle, design is 1 7/8" in diameter; on paddle, the design is 3 5/16" in diameter.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
