Description

Spool stand consisting of a face-turned cherry base, a face-turned cherry cup/platform for pincushion, and a between-centers turned maple standard. Pincushion "tomato" style originally covered by purple plush, but plush is lost leaving a brownish fabric cover. Six brass wires are inserted into base around perimeter to hold spools. Another L-shaped brass wire is inserted into side of standard with bent end pointing up onto which is fitted a between-centers turned cherry thimble holder.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
