Description

Finely woven cotton "square" kerchief. Warp is approx 48 threads/inch; weft is approx 56 threads/inch. There are two blue bands 3/16" from selvedge and also 1/4" from each end, and lines of blue thread woven at approx 1/4" intervals each direction forming "squares." There are initials "LM" cross-stitched into one corner in black thread. The reverse side of the cross-stitch reveals the perfect 4-line square finish known to have been done at Mount Lebanon. There is a hand-written note pinned to one corner that reads: "From Aunt Lydia Mathewson New Lebanon N.Y. November 1822 to Bucklin Mathewson"
