Description

A pair of stereographic photographs mounted on a yellow-colored card picturing four Shakers -- two men and two women -- seated in chairs on the steps of an apparently brick building at the South Family, Watervliet, NY. Information obtained from Recapturing Wisdom's Valley by Dorothy M. Filley (1975) [see page 91] suggests that the man on the far left is Elder George Albert Lomas and that the woman on the far right is Eldress Harriet Bullard. That information was obtained from notes on the photograph in the collection of the Western Reserve Historical Society. It suggests that this grouping is comprised of the South Family Elders Order. Elder Albert Lomas is holding a copy of The Shaker, the Shakers' monthly newspaper for which he served as editor at different times.
